Chief G. Anne Richardson
G. Anne Richardson became chief of the Rappahannock Tribe of Virginia in1998, the first woman to become chief in the Powhatan Confederation since the 1600’s. She is a fourth generation chief in her family. She was born in Indian Neck, Virginia.
She has also been Executive Director of the Mattaponi-Pamunkey-Monican Inc. since 1991 which provides training and employment services for Virginia Indians.
Rappahannock’s are one of 11 State recognized tribes in Virginia, and one of six of which gained Federal Recognition in 2018. Original Algonquian speaking Tribe. The tribe has 500 enrolled members.
She has served on several National committees for the Department of Labor, including the Native American Advisory Council.
She has just completed construction of a major two story addition to the Rappahannock Tribal Center, and the installation of broadband internet for the whole community, and for their neighbors, etc.
She is an ordained Minister of God.
